CESS Joins Face Book…
In a effort to expand and improve our communications with our members and those interested in accreditation CESS will launch a Facebook page in early 2013. The page will be designed to compliment our new website and to increase our social networking with current members and potential new members.

Member Survey..
The bi-annual member survey last administered in 2011 will be conducted in January 2013. Look for the survey and your opportunity to influence CESS services and policies. The survey results will be made public early in 2013 and will be used to guide Commission planning and policy development.

Standards Review…
The current standards and indicators used for the accreditation process were adopted in 2007 with minor additions and editing conducted in 2010. The standards are currently undergoing a thorough review and new revised standards and indicators are expected to be announced in spring 2013. The standards will be effective for schools beginning self-study in spring 2014. Stay tuned to our website for updates.

Our Newest Protocol…
CESS is developing a new protocol for our high performing members with a successful record of prior accreditation. The new protocol, “Sustaining Excellence” is being piloted this year and is scheduled to be available for members seeking re-accreditation beginning in 2014. The new protocol is based on an action research project to address an area in which the school wants to make improvement. This will be the capstone accreditation for the developmental sequence of protocols currently being offered by the Commissions.

CESS’s Credential Program…
The Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools continue to improve and expand our credential program for the recognition of exemplary programs. The Commissions added this year an Early Childhood Credential and will be offering in 2013 a new credential for outstanding visual arts programs. In addition revisions have been completed on the 21St Century Skills credential to more accurately reflect best practices. More information on CESS’s credential program can be found on the CESS-MSA website.

A Rose by Any Other Name…
The Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools have renamed the accreditation services provided for our early childhood education members and members providing early childhood education services to students. The new designation Early Childhood Education will be used in place of Early Age Education. The Commissions feel the name change will more accurately reflect the programs served and will be more consistent with the terminology used in the field. The Commissions commitment to high quality educational opportunities for pre-kindergarten services and programs will remain unchanged.
