Middle States announces the appointment of Philip Harris III as a commissioner.
Harris is a work-based education coordinator with Berks Career & Technology Center in Leesport, Pa., where he helps students gain workforce experience in addition to classroom learning.
“Middle States is a leading accreditor of career and technical education centers, an important section of the educational landscape for many students,” MSA-CESS President Christian Talbot said. “Philip brings a wealth of experience in workforce training and career placement, and Middle States is sure to benefit from his expertise.”
Harris has been teaching career and technical education for nearly 25 years. He attended Temple University and has earned a series of certifications in vocational education.
In addition, Harris has volunteered with Middle States since 2014 and has served on several peer review teams. He has also served as an evaluator with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, a role that has included supporting K-12 schools developing guidance plans that inform school counseling procedures.
“I am a strong believer in Middle States accreditation and the benefits of the Middle States network,” Harris said. “I look forward to working with more schools, school systems and career and technical education centers to help them develop plans and set achievable goals aimed at long-term growth and improvement.”
The Middle States Commissions on Elementary Schools and Secondary Schools comprise 38 commissioners serving three-year terms and elected by the Middles States membership. Commissioners meet twice annually to review accreditation recommendations and the organization’s finances, policies and strategic plan.
