The Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS) announces the appointment of Teaneck Schools Superintendent Christopher Irving, Ed.D., as a new commissioner.
Irving is one of six commissioners recently appointed to MSA-CESS.
“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Irving to the Middle States Commissions,” said Lisa Marie McCauley, Ed.D., president of the MSA-CESS. “He brings extensive leadership experience in both schools and government in New Jersey, and is a strong advocate for helping all schools continuously grow and improve.”
Irving has served as superintendent since 2018. He previously served as the Passaic County Executive Superintendent of Schools and as the Executive Director of Workforce Development and Adult Basic Education for Passaic County.
Irving also co-chaired Gov. Phil Murphy’s education transition team and was a Commissioner on the Paterson Board of Education.
Irving earned his doctorate in education from Seton Hall University and holds a master’s degree in public policy and international affairs from William Paterson University, where he is an adjunct professor of Afrikana Studies.
“I am honored to be appointed to the Middle States Commissions,” said Irving. “I look forward to using my experience and expertise to advance the Middle States mission of helping schools around the world achieve excellence through the process of accreditation.”
